Are you practicing yoga or meditation and interested in bringing more and more of your practice into your life?
Do you feel like your daily work and life with all its challenges and conflicts are holding you down? Your are frustrates and you are feeling that there is no place for your good intentions and life ideals in your daily life?
I believe that you can live much more of what you are practicing on the mat, cushion, on retreat und in your mind on a daily basis. You just didn’t put together all the puzzle pieces of your human practitioner nature yet.
You might find yourself squeezed into the straight jacket of daily requirements and inner reactions. You might already succeed in practicing much more than you did before, but still things jump in the way and you feel bad about having gone a day or week without. For you the split between your practice and your days is painful and you long for a way of life that is bringing them closer together. Can you see your self in this scenario?
That’s exactly where I have been years ago. For many years I’ve worked so hard to try to get my mind be more meditative, my body and mind calmer and more relaxed, my moods and reactions less strong, but it didn’t get better. I’ve read many books, joined classes and retreats in my little bit of spare time and I’ve made times in my day to just be.
But there was this other side in me that felt that all of this was just cosmetic. Even more I felt like I was building up something different next to who I was and that was trying to just resist. On the cushion it kept my mind busy and me bored, it loved to avoid the mat altogether whenever something more important came up and it made me like, crave, hate, shy away and not do what I actually wanted. I felt like I was creating a kind of spiritual self next to my normal being and this made me feel inefficient and like a fraud.
At some point I just couldn’t stand it anymore and I left my normal life all together and entered a life as a full time practitioner in what became seven years in closed group meditation retreats.
That trained me on all levels and in there I learned the ancient practices, modern research, how to overcome normal human challenges with meditative skills and much more. It was everything else than a smooth ride and I’ve never worked in my life more than in those years from 2003-2011! And I saw that for many of us retreat life is not necessarily the easy and best way to grow.
I found that if we mix modern neuroscience and meditation research with ancient wisdom and personal exploration we can find our very unique way to be, live and work. This allows us to be fully rooted in our deepest intentions, well nourished in our personal life and very aware and resilient in our professional lives and our day to day activities.
If you are someone who loves to learn more, to gain deeper insight into your own way of functioning in order to understand yourself and others better you can do that right where you are now. You don’t need to give up everything as I did and you don’t need to miss out on years of professional development and family life.
There does not need to be a disconnect between you spiritual life and your very ordinary day to day experiences. But if you don’t get a good head start or course alignment into this united way of practicing you might suddenly find yourself in one of those seemingly dead end roads.
